Creative Kitchens to offer kitchen design seminar tonight (Via)

HUNTINGTON — Creative Kitchens will host a free kitchen design seminar from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 26, at its Huntington showroom, 1242 5th Ave.

“Many times, people interested in remodeling their kitchens don’t know how to start the process and may be intimidated by all the choices and options available,” Rob Stepp, president of the regional kitchen, bath and cabinetry provider, said in a press release. “We hope to break down the process and educate them on establishing a budget, design techniques, installation options and budget-saving tips.” 

Stepp is encouraging attendees to bring measurements and pictures of their current kitchen to the seminar. Creative Kitchen’s designers will provide tailor-made remodeling ideas and tips, regardless of whether you plan to do the work yourself or use another contractor.

Creative Kitchens Company History

A wooden plaque bearing the words from the Gospel of Mark hangs at the entrance to Creative Kitchens in Huntington, West Virginia. Mark 9:23 says: “All things are possible to him who believes” and was a favorite verse of the late Robert Evans Stepp, founder of Creative Kitchens, Inc.

After returning from serving in the Army, Mr. Stepp began his career working in the furniture business along with his father. The elder Mr. Stepp and his friend, who also had a son, were instrumental in getting the two of them into the kitchen business. Mr. Stepp’s partner actually began by selling kitchen samples from his car while the older Mr. Stepp “seeded” his son with $1,000.00 to “kick off” the business venture.

In 1959, Robert Stepp’s dream became a reality. Creative Kitchens, Inc. was born at its present location having two employees; he and his partner. Mr. Stepp’s love for his family and desire to provide well for them motivated him to work tirelessly at two jobs; accounting by day and selling cabinets by  night. Because of his many years of dedication to the company, Creative Kitchens now prides itself in serving  customers at two locations, one in Huntington and one in Charleston. The company currently employees forty-four people who also consider themselves part of the Creative family.

Mr. Stepp’s diligence and persistence together with his eagerness to “dream big” earned him numerous distinctions in the business community. He was honored with the Business Appreciation Award, “Our Jobs, Our Children, Our Future, Inc.” for his high standard of business ethics and the impact he had on our community. In 1974, he gained the distinction of CKD (Certified Kitchen Designer) from the National Kitchen and Bath Association. For three consecutive years, Creative Kitchens was selected the “Best in the Tri-State” for kitchens and baths.

Presently, Mr. Stepp’s vision is being realized as the small company he began forty-six years ago continues to grow and serve the Greater Tri State Area. Creative Kitchens is privileged to work with both the smaller kitchen and bath projects as well as the larger assignments, including the famous Greenbrier Resort’s Sporting Club.

Robert Evans Stepp was the devoted husband of Sandra Stepp and proud father of three children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Surely, he would be proud to know that his family is carrying on the Stepp tradition of serving their clients and communities in admirable ways. That may very well be what he would consider his greatest accomplishment.

Design your small kitchen, the first job for you is to make a good planning. You must first determine the amount of money you plan to invest by figuring the budget for your small kitchen remodeling project. It still takes a great deal of planning to design an effective layout for single wall or two-way galley shape kitchens found in many small apartments in large cities.

To make a small kitchen look larger, one important aspect of making your kitchen seem larger is the color palette. If you had always believed that you were supposed to paint your spacially challenged rooms white, then here is some great news for you. If you would rather have bright or deep colors in your kitchen you can have them without making the room seem cramped if you decorate with a monochromatic color scheme, or one where the colors are the same intensity. You might even use a blue decorating theme, or if you want more color try using green, purple and blue that all give off the same tone and intensity.

To add depth to the room, plan for painting an opposing wall an intense, deep tone – this gives it the impression of being further away and also adds an interesting charm. A gray-blue paint color is very nice for decorative appeal and for also making the walls appear to recede, hence making the room seem bigger. If gray isn’t your favorite paint color, you may also decorate with cool colors such as blues and purples which will yield the same appearance.
A checkerboard design on the floor can help a small kitchen seem larger.
Planning cabinet storage for small appliances will keep counters clutter-free.

Make small rooms feel bigger by adding windows to bring in more sunlight.

And remember, when doing a small kitchen remodel, glass doors, folding doors, pocket doors or no doors at all can work well.
