A Small Kitchen Design With Unique Style (A 1950s kitchen)
Kitchen designer Cyndy Cantley created just such an environment from a three-room kitchen built in the ’50s that was hopelessly inadequate for her clients, John and Laura Lee Samford.
Natural materials, sleek stainless steel appliances, and a monochromatic palette lend an air of serenity and classic simplicity. The travertine floors link the kitchen stylistically to the rest of the house. The countertops and sink backsplash are composed of Calcutta gold marble, while stainless steel work surfaces embrace the range.
Years from now, the Samford’s kitchen will still be a classic. It is simple and timeless and bears witness to Cantley’s design philosophy. “Don’t go with the trends or get bogged down in what is the newest and latest,” she says. “Don’t get gimmicky with your kitchen. Save that for something more easily replaced, like the pillows on your sofa.”
